Veteran's Day

The students learned about the meaning of Veteran's Day.  They wrote a thank you note to a Veteran and made poppy flower pencils!

Ag in the Classroom

Mrs. Anderson from the Farm Bureau visited our classroom today!  Mrs. Anderson brought different kinds of pumpkins and taught the students about the pumpkin life cycle.  Next the students completed a pumpkin life cycle activity and listened to a pumpkin story.

The students worked in groups and had to used tools and materials to design and build a structure that will reduce the warming effect of sunlight on an area.  Each group had a monster they had to protect from the sun.  The students did an awesome job working together and creating their structures!

Beginning, Middle and End Stories!

Today the students finished their first beginning, middle and end stories.  The students taped their stories together and added a title. Next the students shared their stories with their classmates

Daily Five

Today was an exciting day in kindergarten! 
 The students started the second center of Daily Five!  This means that some students were Reading to Self, while other students were completing a Word Work activity.  The children are very proud of themselves!

Guided Math Centers

Students started guided math centers this week!  
These are differentiated math centers based on the each child's needs and abilities.  The centers are focused around the math topic we are learning in class.

Daily Five

We have been practicing the Reading to Self portion of Daily Five.  The children have successfully completed reading to themselves for EIGHT WHOLE MINUTES!
The children have learned three ways to read a story... 1. Read the pictures 2. Read the words 3. Reread the story  They are doing a wonderful job :)

Our first full week of kindergarten!

We had an all school gathering and students learned about our new buddy bench.  If he/she cannot find someone to play with, they sit on the bench and friends know to ask them to play.

Egg Drop Day!

Today the kids created a safe home for our egg.  The students used materials they brought from home to protect the egg.  Then Mr. Alex dropped the eggs off the roof.  Our egg survived the drop and did not crack!

B is for Braille Day!

Today was Braille Day in our ABC count down!  The students learned how our vision friends use braille.  They also took turns to braille their own names!

Earth Day

For Earth Day the students helped to clean the playground.  We competed to see which class could pick up the most rubber chips.  The kids did a great job cleaning the playground!

Fire Safety

The Elmhurst Fire Department came and discussed fire safety with our students!  Elmhurst Fire Department will visit two more times. Please make sure your child is practicing their phone number and address in order to fully participate in the activities

STEAM Bridge Project

The students worked in groups to create a plan to build a bridge using marshmallows, toothpicks and craft sticks.  The students then built their bridges.  The goal was to have their bridge hold at least one crochet snowman.
